GameCheckpoint#2
A-typical Ball » Devlog
This is the midway checkpoint in the development of the game. (See GameCheckpoint#1)
Key milestones thus far:
- Created 9 levels to explore more in-depth level design opportunities
- Established team roles and maintained regular updates on progress
- Implemented several components for level design:
- Interactive and themed ExitGates
- Color-changing Collectibles
- Exploding Bumpers
- Reset Obstacles
- Color-wipe Gates
- Path generation and following
- Other notable updates include:
- More cohesive art design (skybox, environment textures, lighting and particle effects)
- Improved controls (bug fixes from previous webGL builds)
- Improved camera tracking for split/merge player states
- Added tutorial text to relevant levels
- Set standard scene management structure in Unity
- Implemented color-resolution rules for merging (last acquired becomes main color)
Known issues to fix:
- When merging, only one PlayerBall is pulled inward (this is a WebGL-exclusive bug)
- ExitGates trigger detection is very sensitive, resulting in rapid color-flashing
- Lacking context menu and other UI elements
- Camera tracks center between split state PlayerBalls, which leads to:
- Balls can go out of view if far enough apart
- Camera falls off view if one ball falls off the level platform
- Certain features may be unintuitive (e.g. recency-based color-resolution when merging)
